30 August of this year marks 20 years since establishment of the Latvian National Accreditation Bureau (LATAK) – Latvian national accreditation body. Over the course of these 20 years, the bureau has managed to create a team of strong professionals – lead assessors and experts, which ensures assessment of activities and competences of conformity assessment bodies with high sense of responsibility and according to standards and requirements. Currently, the bureau team consists of 16 employees.
One of the most significant achievements of the bureau is signing of the Multilateral Agreement (MLA) with the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA). This means, that certifications issued by accredited bodies are recognized also in other countries. On 10 April 2014, based on EA MLA audit results, EA Council adopted a positive decision on continuation of recognition of LATAK in MLA areas: testing (incl. medical) and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, products, management systems and individuals certification bodies. The agreement was extended with the greenhouse gas (GHG) area.

The operation of LATAK is implemented also outside the borders of Latvia. In total five testing laboratories are accredited in Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. LATAK regularly engages in various international projects both in the Baltic region, and in Georgia and Belarus.

Achievements in Latvia in some numbers: accredited in total 248 conformity assessment bodies, approximately 300 accreditation decisions are adopted each year, and approximately 85 experts of various sectors are involved in accreditation assessments annually.

In order to look back at achievements and express gratitude to employees and cooperation partners, LATAK will organize the anniversary event on 19 September of this year, which will also include the anniversary conference.
